(1) To carry out long-term observations of structural and functional changes in agro-ecosystems, and to accumulate high-quality, long-term data, so as to become a long-term stable observatory and data centre for high-yielding and high-efficiency agro-ecosystems in the IRA-LRYR.

      (2) Using a combination of site mechanism and process research and regional integrated research, the centre will conduct comprehensive research on structural and functional changes, driving mechanisms, regional patterns and management and control of agro-ecosystems in the type of area it represents, and produce high-level research results to become a research centre for efficient and healthy agro-ecosystems in the Huanghuaihai Plain.

      (3) To conduct technology research and development, technology integration and model construction in response to the major needs of China's agricultural development process and the problems of local agro-ecosystem management and control, to propose effective systematic solutions and patterns, to establish demonstration patterns, and to become a base for agricultural technology innovation, model innovation demonstration and transfer and transformation in the region.

      (4) Cultivate an internationally influential agro-ecosystem research team through the training and introduction of talents as well as open alliances and collaborative innovation, and become a base for the cultivation of outstanding innovative talents at home and abroad, a talent gathering base and an academic exchange platform.
