The Yellow River Delta Research Center was established on January 17, 2017, jointly by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research and the Dongying Municipal Government. It is an important research base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the Yellow River Delta region. Fully using the advantages of the combination of resources of the local government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences system and closely meeting the needs of the national and local governments in the Yellow River Delta region, the research center focuses on major scientific, technological and social development issues in the Yellow River Delta region, such as the evolution of the sea-land-river ecological environment, global changes, regional sustainable development, ecological civilization construction, modern ecological agriculture, leisure agriculture and ecological tourism, economic distribution and industrial upgrading, gathering outstanding scientific and technological talents, conducting long-term research and demonstration, and forming systematic innovation results. The research center also aims to build a comprehensive research and innovation platform with unique characteristics, serving scientific research, local social and economic development, and national strategy implementation.

      According to the joint agreement between the two parties, the Dongying Municipal Government provided 1030 mu of experimental land and construction land for the center, including 30 mu of construction land and 1000 mu of experimental land. The scientific research infrastructure and supporting facilities are composed of 3 buildings (office and experimental building, restaurant, staff dormitory, etc.). The construction started in December 2017 and was put into use in October 2018. The total construction area is about 3000 square meters, which can meet 30-50 researchers to carry out work in the center at the same time. The experimental land is divided into control experimental area (100 mu), long-term experimental area (200 mu), experimental demonstration area (700 mu), etc.
